Progressive ideas and pragmatic applications without the political platitudes.
Thanks to copywriter and amateur cinematographer Anthony Greer (who is also moonlighting as my unofficial campaign manager) for this great ad!
Far too many of the houses in our city are being bought up as investment properties and finding their way onto various vacation sites further exacerbating our housing affordability and homelessness crises. We need to eliminate the regulatory advantages that make it easier and more profitable to provide short-term rentals instead of long-term housing! One way we'll do that is by increasing the current 9% tax on short-term rentals to 50%!
Over the last 15 years I have loved taking advantage of the countless opportunities to enjoy a wide variety of cultural performances throughout the city. Unfortunately, like many of you, I have also missed out on a number of amazing shows because of the greed and unscrupulous practices of the scalpers & the secondary ticket markets.
It's time for the City to step up and take aggressive action to stop these sleazy scammers. I'll work to follow in the footsteps of cities like Vancouver, CN, which outlawed the re-sale of concert tickets above their face value. Let's keep the profits with the performers and not the pirates.
In 2015 my life was turned upside down after I was diagnosed with a major mood disorder. I learned firsthand about the crushing effects of the stigma around mental illness and the perils of navigating our fractured mental healthcare system. I told the story of my difficult path to recovery at NAMI's 2020 Brainpower Chronicles. You can watch the full performance here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4Jc8k8NKHM
If elected I will make sure we are not only providing access to and education about great preventative mental healthcare but also that we have beds available in compassionate treatment facilities for when a person is in crisis.
I am the only candidate for City Council in District 3 that is committed to prioritizing cleaning up this City! Nearly every platform and political promise a candidate makes is contingent upon creating consensus on the council, but not this one. If I am elected, I promise you will see a dramatic reduction in graffiti in our district - because I don't need a consensus, just time, paint and sweat equity! I will win the fight against the blight!
Lots of sensible people trust me, and in time you will too.
